Rocket attack in South Waziristan kills CTD officer and two civilians

Unidentified attackers carried out a rocket attack on a vehicle in Wana, South Waziristan, killing three people, including a Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) officer.

According to police sources, the attack took place near the Baghicha bus stop, where the “field” vehicle was the target of a rocket attack followed by shelling.

A CTD officer and two civilians were killed in the sudden and intense attack.

Authorities shifted the bodies to Wana Hospital for autopsy.

So far, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

The military’s media wing on Saturday reported that four terrorists were killed in an intelligence-led operation (IBO) carried out by security forces in Sarwakai general area of ​​South Waziristan district in connection with the reported presence of Khawaraj.

According to an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) press release, during the operation, troops successfully captured the Khwarij location, resulting in the death of four Khwarij.

Meanwhile, a polio vaccination campaign took place in North Waziristan on October 29 suspended after 15 armed men forcibly took away weapons from three police officers assigned to protect a vaccination team in the Shiwa region.

Local police confirmed that officers were guarding workers suffering from polio when the attack occurred.

Meanwhile, in the Dabori area of ​​Upper Orakzai, gunmen attacked another polio team, opening fire on police officers assigned to protect them.

One police officer was killed in the attack, another was injured and is currently under medical care.

Following the Orakzai attack, police and Frontier Corps personnel launched searches in the area to apprehend those responsible.

The Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) noted that security forces are proactively responding to ensure the safety of the ongoing vaccination campaigns amid growing security concerns.

Acting President Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday paid tribute to the security forces for carrying out a successful operation against Khawarij in South Waziristan.

The Acting President praised the courage of the security forces for sending four Khawarij terrorists to hell during the operation, said a press release from the Presidential Press Secretariat.

He said that the security forces attacked terrorist hideouts with utmost courage and professionalism; and expressed national determination to continue until the complete elimination of Fitna-tul-Khawarij.
