YOUNGSTOWN — A 40-year-old Barberton man was taken to the Mahoning County Jail Monday following a Sunday incident at 6:57 p.m., in which he is accused of grabbing the steering wheel of his girlfriend’s car and intentionally driving it into the median on Interstate 680.

Bradley Sheridan was charged Monday in Youngstown Municipal Court with assault and pleaded not guilty.

He returns to court for a pre-trial hearing on November 13 at 11 a.m.

He was released from prison on Monday.

Youngstown police were called to I-680 west of downtown for a single-vehicle crash and located the woman and her vehicle. A police report states she was driving her Honda Accord to take a man, later identified as Sheridan, to a home in Barberton when an argument began.

The woman stated that the argument was about him wanting a ride home and she not wanting to transport him.

She said Sheridan told her he would kill her cat.

She said the argument continued until they approached Belle Vista Avenue.

She said Sheridan struck her on the right cheek with his left hand and then intentionally pushed her car into the concrete median, the report said.

The officer investigating the crash observed tire marks on the road indicating where the vehicle had veered from the outside lane into a spot on the center wall, which caused damage to the front of the vehicle, which then spun around and the rear bumper also struck the median, the report states .

The vehicle was towed from the scene and suffered serious damage.

The woman told the officer the man ran into the woods and described him wearing gray sweatpants, a gray hoodie and a hat. The report said other officers were asked to look for him but did not find him.

After gathering information for the report, the investigating officer drove around the area looking for Sheridan, spotted him at Mahoning and Glenwood avenues, and took him into custody.

Sheridan said he had a headache after the accident and was taken to St. John’s Hospital. Elizabeth Youngstown.

The report states that after he was released from the hospital, he was taken to prison.
