Harrisburg School District student injured in shooting

A Harrisburg School District student was injured after… shooting that prompted authorities to close Downey Elementary School for a period of time Thursday afternoon.

Harrisburg police said the shooting occurred around noon at North 13th and Herr streets. At the scene, police found a juvenile male with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. According to the police, the minors were taken to hospital for observation.

Police said the juvenile’s condition was stable on Thursday evening.

According to Harrisburg School District spokeswoman Kirsten Keys, the minor is a student in the Harrisburg School District.

The incident occurred at Downey Elementary School at 1313 Monroe St.

“Due to an incident that occurred in the community, Downey High School was placed on lockdown for approximately an hour yesterday afternoon,” a statement released by the district said. “The juvenile victim involved in the community incident is not a Downey student, but a Harrisburg School District student. No further information is available at this time.”

Police said the investigation was ongoing.
