Const. Hunter Robinz pleads guilty to breach of trust

An Edmonton police officer facing sexual assault charges has pleaded guilty to breach of trust.

Const. Hunter Robinz was charged in 2020 with sexual assault, as well as unauthorized use of a computer database and two counts of breach of trust.

The 24-year-old woman said Robinz attacked her in July 2019 after he visited her home while she was on duty and in uniform.

According to the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT), Robinz had encountered the woman previously during a service call.

ASIRT says investigators found evidence showing that Robinz, between March 2017 and June 2019, “engaged in a pattern of behavior that included contact with women on duty that violated the standards of responsibility and conduct required as a police officer.”

ASIRT also says it found evidence that between September 2018 and July 2019, Robinz accessed secure databases to obtain the names and addresses of people “for personal reasons unrelated to his duties as a police officer.”

Charges of sexual assault and unauthorized use of a computer database were dropped in exchange for a guilty plea to breach of trust.

His sentencing date has not yet been set.

Robinz was found guilty of unsafe storage of a firearm following a separate incident in Stony Plain in 2021.

EPS said Robinz was dismissed from service without pay after the allegations were announced.

CTV News Edmonton has reached out to EPS for an update on his employment status.
