Winnipeg police: Woman attacked in U of M dorm

Winnipeg police are searching for a suspect after a woman’s U of M dorm room was broken into and assaulted.

Police said officers were called around 4:45 a.m. to the University of Manitoba student housing complex on Dafoe Road.

The woman told investigators that someone broke into her room while she was sleeping and attacked her.

She managed to fight the man off and call for help. University security and police were called.

Const. Dani McKinnon said the woman’s room was not on the ground floor of the building.

Police said the woman was treated for her injuries and her condition was stable.

Investigators have now released photos of the suspect and are looking for a man between five feet and ten feet tall with long, unkempt hair and facial hair.

The man was wearing a black toque, a black jacket with a gray sweater with a hood underneath, blue jeans and black shoes. He also had a black and blue backpack with him.

McKinnon said the suspect is believed to be a “homeless” person.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers. Police said investigators are cooperating with the university.
