A car plowed into a crowd outside a primary school in China

According to state media, a car drove into a crowd of people in front of an elementary school in China’s Hunan province.

No details about the casualties are yet known, but state media reported that “several students and adults were injured and fell to the ground.”

Several people were sent to hospital.

According to reports, the driver of the vehicle – identified as a white SUV – was caught by parents and school security officers and handed over to police.

Video from the scene posted on a private WeChat account shows several children lying on the ground and panicked students carrying school bags running from the scene.

The incident is the third apparently random attack on crowds in China in a week.

At least 35 people were killed in a Nov. 12 car attack in southern China, and eight people were killed in a weekend stabbing attack on a school in eastern China.

There are discussions on social media about the social phenomenon of “social revenge”, where individuals attack strangers in response to personal wrongs.
