“Many students were injured, and specific victims are being identified,” state television CCTV reported.

State media did not say whether the crash was intentional.

A video circulating on Chinese social media that matched photos of the school online appeared to show the aftermath of the incident, with dozens of children fleeing the crash site in panic.

Several people, including a small child, can be seen lying on the ground.

Another showed a bloody man being beaten with sticks by passersby as he lay on the ground next to an SUV.

Many of the initial videos of the incident appeared to have already been deleted from China’s tightly controlled social media platforms.

The accident occurred in front of Yong’an Elementary School in the central Chinese city of Changde.

Last week, several mass incidents occurred in China, sparking widespread discussion online about the growing number of seemingly random acts of violence against civilians.

Last Monday, a man killed 35 people and injured more than 40 when he drove his car into a crowd in the southern city of Zhuhai – the country’s deadliest attack in a decade.

However, it took authorities almost 24 hours to reveal the figure, and videos of the attack were later deleted from social media.

Police said the suspect, nicknamed Fan, was “driven by… dissatisfaction with the division of property after divorce.”

On Saturday, eight people were killed and 17 injured in a knife attack at a vocational school in eastern China.

Police said the suspect was a 21-year-old former student of the school who was supposed to graduate this year but failed his exams.

In addition to the Yixing and Zhuhai incidents, a series of other attacks took place.

In October in Shanghai, a man killed three people and injured 15 others in a knife attack in a supermarket.
