Two gunmen stopped firing at a petrol pump in Gokalpuri

NEW DELHI: Delhi Police has arrested two persons allegedly involved in the brazen petrol pump firing case in which the attackers fired over a dozen shots and even injured the pump manager in northeast Delhi’s Gokalpuri area, an official said on Monday.

The accused have been identified as Ankit and Rukmesh. According to the police, accused Ankit is associated with Rahul alias Baba, who is a habitual criminal and runs his own gang. Accused Rukmesh was in contact with Deepak alias Furtila, who is also an associate of Rahul Baba.

The incident took place on the night of November 15-16, when several attackers on bicycles arrived at a gas station in Gokalpuri and fired over 16 shots. Ansul Rathi, who works as a gas station manager, was injured in the incident.

Additional commissioner of police (crime branch) Sanjay Bhatia said the police analyzed CCTV footage and managed to capture the registration number of one motorcycle used in the crime.

“The owner of the motorcycle, Lalit, a resident of Loni, Ghaziabad, UP, was interrogated and he revealed that his friend Rukmesh from Meerut, UP had borrowed his motorcycle on November 15 around 7 p.m. on the pretext of some personal work and returned the same around 11 p.m. damaged number plate,” said the additional CP.

Moreover, the cops found that Vinod Kasana of Noida, Rukmesh’s brother-in-law and sister, was also with him after the incident, following which a raid was conducted at Kasana’s residence, but Rukmesh could not be located.

“After investigation, it was found that Vinod Kasana was continuously misleading the police and facilitating the escape of accused Rukmesh. During further interrogation, Kasana confessed to Rukmesh’s involvement in the petrol pump firing incident in Gokalpuri,’ a senior officer said.

Meanwhile, police officers conducted raids at many locations in UP and arrested Ankit from Meerut. Ankit’s interrogation then led the team to Rukmesh’s whereabouts and he was also arrested.
