NCP(SP) leader Anil Deshmukh injured in stone pelting in Katol in Maharashtra, taken to hospital

Former Maharashtra minister and NCP (SP) leader Anil Deshmukh was injured in an attack in Katol town in Nagpur district of Maharashtra on Monday.

The incident took place around 8 pm this evening when a group of people pelted stones on Deshmukh’s car while he was returning to Katol after a meeting at Narked village.

Some unidentified persons pelted stones on Deshmukh’s car near Belphata on Jalakheda road, injuring him. Local police arrived at the scene and are investigating the incident.

NCP (SP) leader Anil Deshmukh alleged that some people pelted stones at his car on Katol Jalalkheda Road in Katol Assembly constituency. Police said the former minister was immediately taken to the Civil Hospital in Katol.

Nagpur Rural Police Superintendent Harssh Poddar confirmed the incident. He said senior officers were called to the scene and an investigation was launched. Meanwhile, the police are trying to identify those responsible for the attack.

Anil Deshmukh’s son Salil is contesting Katol’s election on the NCP Sharad Pawar ticket.

Reacting to the incident, DCP Nagpur Rahul Madne said, “Anil Deshmukh was brought here to Alexis (Max) Hospital for treatment. He is being treated here. Joint CP and SP are also present here.”

KPK (SP) spokesperson Vedprakash Arya condemned the attack on the party leader and sought a high-level inquiry and police protection for the former family minister.

“Some people attacked Anil Deshmukh’s car at Belfata Bhishnur in Katol, due to which Deshmukh suffered severe head injury. His treatment started in Katol but due to serious injuries, he was shifted to Nagpur for treatment,” Arya said in a statement.
