According to the police, the co-owner of a gymnastics center in New Jersey sexually assaulted a 16-year-old girl

The co-owner of an Atlantic County gymnastics center was arrested Sunday after being accused of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl, police said.

The Galloway Township Police Department said it received a report of a man, identified Tuesday as Matthew A. Shriver, 51, of Brigantine, sexually assaulting a girl. The investigation included obtaining search warrants for his cellphone, car and place of business, Everest Gymnastics & Tumbling Center in Galloway, police said.

Their findings, combined with cellphone evidence, led to Slater’s arrest, police said. The department said he was charged with aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault, endangering the welfare of a child, resisting arrest, tampering with physical evidence and obstruction of justice. Following his arrest, he was transported to the Atlantic County Criminal Justice Center and will be held there pending future court proceedings.

It was unclear whether the girl was a gym student.

The center announced Tuesday that it had severed all ties with Shriver and that he would be barred from approaching the company.

“Due to the very sensitive nature of the events, we here at Everest would like to inform you that the accused is no longer associated with this facility,” the center wrote on its Facebook page.

“We would like to acknowledge that the sole owner, Jennifer Jones, does not condone this behavior. We are proud of what we do in this community. We hope you will continue to see it as we have since 2017.”
