Five more local wild parrots have been found dead in Southern California

Five more parrots found dead a disturbing trend resulting in several colorful birds being killed or injured in the Los Angeles area.

Cleo Watts, founder of the nonprofit animal rehabilitation center Cleo’s pet care in Pasadena spoke to KTLA for the first time over the weekend about recent incidents involving birds.

“I get a lot of calls about birds being shot down,” Watts told NewsNation’s Jennifer McGraw KTLA. “It’s very depressing to know that someone could do something like this to these animals.”

On Monday, Watts told KTLA that five more parrots were found dead and one seriously injured in Temple City.

According to Watts, one of the parrots placed in her care was missing half of a wing.

While Watts was caring for many of the injured birds, she sent the last injured parrot to Dr. Teresa Micco in Rancho Palso Verdes for treatment. Micco confirmed that the injuries indicate the birds were shot with pellet guns.

On Saturday, Watts said loud birds have caused some controversy recently in Pasadena, Altadena and the rest of the San Gabriel Valley.

“We have leaf blowers, we have people with loud (car) exhausts, we have crying babies and barking dogs,” she said. – We won’t shoot at them. So why these guys?”

No description of the suspect or suspects was available.

Anyone with information about these crimes is asked to contact their local police department. Anyone who finds an injured bird is encouraged to contact Watts at [email protected].
