2 Louisville, Kentucky police officers shot and killed during a traffic stop

There is an ongoing investigation into this case in Kentucky two policemen they were shot while stopping a car that had been reported stolen.

The incident occurred in Louisville’s Smoketown neighborhood on Tuesday around 8 p.m., when Fourth Division officers stopped a stolen car at 400 Roselane Street, Louisville Deputy Police Chief Col. Emily McKinley said during a news conference.

She said there were multiple people in the car when one of the passengers began fighting with two officers over a firearm.

During the fight, both officers and the suspect were shot.

Louisville police confirmed to X that it was one officer shot in the hand while the other was shot in the leg. None of their injuries were life-threatening.

The unidentified officers were transported to University Hospital. McKinley said the suspect, who also was not identified, was taken to Jewish Hospital and was in stable condition.

Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg briefly joined the press conference Tuesday evening to share his visit to both officers at the hospital and added that they were “in good spirits and on the road to recovery.”

“I want to say a huge thank you to both the officers and all members of LMPD who (sic) go the extra mile every day to keep us all safe throughout the community,” Greenberg said.

He also thanked Fr University Hospital of Louisville, where both officers were taken due to their “extraordinary work.”

McKinley said the investigation is in its preliminary stages and new information is expected Wednesday.
