Six people injured in cable car accident at French ski resort

At least six people were injured as a result of approx ropeway accident on the popular Alpine ski resort Val Thorens.

According to a statement by the French authorities, the accident occurred on Tuesday around 7:30 a.m. during difficult weather conditions in the French Alps. Savoie regional administration.

Authorities said the cabin of the Cime Caron cable car, used for construction work, collided with an access station, carrying 16 workers.

Two victims were seriously injured, but neither was life-threatening.

Firefighters, paramedics and mountain rescue teams evacuated injured workers using a nearby gondola. They were taken to hospitals in Annecy and Grenoble.

The cause of the accident was not immediately clear.

François Ravier, prefect of the Savoy region, said: “It is too early to know the exact circumstances that led to this accident.

“We will have to wait for the preliminary results of the investigation.”

Regional authorities established a crisis management cell and a “mass casualty plan” to coordinate rescue efforts.

Val Thorens attracts skiers from all over Europe and is one of three ski resorts in the Three Valleys Group, which includes Courchevel and Meribel.

According to the resort’s website, the Cime Caron cable car was once the longest in the world when it was built in 1982.

The resort was scheduled to open for the winter season on November 23.

Last July, helicopters evacuated almost 300 people from a high-altitude station in the Swiss Alps after the cable car to the summit broke down.

The cable car was heading to the Glacier 3000 ski resort in the Les Diablerets mountain range when an electrical fault in the engine system caused it to fail.
