The Calgary Fire Department says investigators are working to determine the cause of an explosion at a townhouse in the city’s southeast, which injured four people.

Crews were called to the Mahogany neighborhood Thursday afternoon and along the way noticed flames and a large plume of smoke coming from several blocks away.

After arriving at the site, it turned out that the tenement house, which was completely engulfed, had collapsed and the fire had spread to neighboring apartments.

Two firefighters and two people were injured, one was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The fire department says the house that exploded was unoccupied, but some neighboring homes were.

All people with photos or video recordings of the explosion taken before the arrival of firefighters are asked to contact the fire brigade.
