A police chase ends in an officer-involved shooting; Body camera footage has been released

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – Louisiana State Police troopers have released footage of a police chase that ended in an officer-involved shooting in Baton Rouge.

On Friday, November 22, LSP released footage from officers’ body-worn cameras and dashboard cameras as officers continue to investigate a pursuit and shooting that occurred on Sunday, November 3 around 8 p.m.

No officers were injured, but the driver of the vehicle involved in the pursuit and a passenger of the vehicle were injured.

According to authorities, two people were injured and taken to hospital with serious injuries. No officers were injured during the incident.

An initial investigation revealed that a Department of Public Safety officer attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation on Chippewa Street near Daisy Avenue, which led to a pursuit, troopers said.

According to LSP, during the pursuit, the vehicle struck the officer’s fully marked patrol unit on Brownlee Street south of Bawell Street and then accelerated toward the officer, who was standing nearby.

A DPS officer fired at the vehicle, injuring the driver and another person in the vehicle, police said. They added that the driver of the vehicle was identified as Tyler Pugh, 33, of Baton Rouge.

Troopers said Pugh and the injured passenger were taken to a hospital for treatment. Pugh suffered minor injuries and was released before his arrest. The injured passenger suffered serious injuries and is in hospital.

According to LSP, Pugh was arrested and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Jail on outstanding arrest warrants. Officers said additional charges will be filed as the investigation continues.

A DPS police officer has been placed on administrative leave in accordance with Louisiana Department of Public Safety policy.
