The identity of the man who died in a shooting involving an officer has been established

SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) – Authorities have identified the man who was shot during an officer-involved shooting in Springfield.

This was announced by Elijah Ayers, spokesman for the Hampden District Attorney’s Office At approximately 1 a.m. Thursday, a 911 call was made to the 0-100 number on Lyman Street. When police arrived, the subject of the 911 call, 24-year-old Devin Lewis of Springfield, was seen at the entrance to the apartment building with two guns. “Due to circumstances that remain under investigation, two officers fired their service pistol and one struck the 24-year-old, injuring him,” Ayers explained.

Officers provided medical assistance at the scene. Lewis was taken to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office is investigating this case in cooperation with the Springfield Police Department.
