Police impose bans and diversions at Koregaon Park for vote counting

In view of the counting of votes for the 2024 assembly elections, which will be held at the Food Corporation of India’s headquarters in Koregaon Park on Saturday, November 23, police have imposed prohibitory orders and implemented major traffic diversions for safety and efficiency reasons.

Votes will be counted in assembly constituencies including Vadgaon Sheri, Shivajinagar, Kothrud, Khadakwasla, Parvati, Hadapsar, Cantonment and Kasba. Joint Commissioner of Police Ranjan Kumar Sharma announced stringent security measures, including a ban on the use of mobile phones and electronic devices at the counting station. Only persons with authorized passes are allowed to enter the facility, and carrying sticks and flammable materials is prohibited. A curfew was also imposed as vehicles were banned from entering the Koregaon Park area.

Apart from the bans, several traffic changes have been introduced in the Koregaon Park area. Parking is prohibited for 200 meters along South Main Road in lanes 2, 3, 4 and 5. The road from Don Bosco Youth Center to the vote counting center will be closed to traffic from 10 p.m. on Friday until vote counting ends on Saturday. . Vehicles coming from St Mira College and Atur Park Society will not be allowed to proceed towards lane 1 on South Main Road. Vehicles coming from lanes 5, 6 and 7 will not be able to enter lane 4; they can turn right and follow that. Vehicles coming from South Main Road will not be allowed to enter Jain Property Plot No. 38 in Lane No. 2 and Bungalows 67 and 68 in Lane No. 3.

Once the vote counting is completed, traffic in this area will be restored to normal. Traffic police appeal to the public to adapt to the changes and cooperate with security measures to ensure that vote counting takes place without disruption.
