3 people died in a gas leak at a fertilizer company in Sangli

PUNE Three people, including two women and a watchman, were killed on Thursday and over ten people were hospitalized after a gas leak at a fertilizer company at Bombalewadi MIDC near Kadegaon in Sangli district.

The victims have been identified as Suchita Uthale, 50, of Yetgaon in Sangli and Neelam Rethrekar, 26, of Masur in Satara. According to police, the third victim has not yet been identified.

Authorities said the gas leak caused immediate symptoms among workers, including dizziness, nausea and difficulty breathing. Emergency response teams were immediately dispatched to control the situation and evacuate people from the affected area, officials said.

According to the police, the injured are undergoing treatment in hospital, and one of them, the factory owner, is in a critical condition.

Ajit Shelar, tehsildar, Sangram Shewale, local police inspector and other police and district officials rushed to the spot and provided all necessary assistance to the victims.

Local authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the leak, which is believed to be ammonia gas, and to ensure safety measures are implemented at the facility to prevent further incidents.
