Cohoes man arrested for allegedly making fake checks

New York State Police arrested 37-year-old Thomas Bishop after more than a year of investigation.

On July 27, 2023, State Police investigated reports of an organized crime operation involving forged checks. During the course of their investigation, State Police discovered that on July 26, 2024, the Waterford Police Department arrested Bishop for an unrelated crime during a traffic stop. The officer who stopped him discovered numerous pieces of identification, checks, checking materials and other items in his vehicle.

Investigators later determined that the items were stolen. The investigation revealed that Bishop allegedly intercepted mail packages and stole other items along with information that he then allegedly used to create fraudulent checks.

Bishop was arrested and taken to Clifton Park SP for questioning and later arraigned at Waterford Magistrates’ Court, where he was released on his own recognizance.

After his release, Bishop was turned over to Waterford Police on an unrelated open arrest warrant from that agency.
