Gwinnett County Police say a man was taken to the hospital after being shot by an officer in Norcross

NORCROSS, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – A man was taken to the hospital after being shot by a Norcross police officer, according to Gwinnett County Police.

Police said that around 9 p.m., an officer was patrolling a parking lot near the intersection of Dawson Boulevard and McDonough Drive when a man spotted him and fled.

The man ran into the street and fell, losing control of the gun. According to the police, the officer followed the man and forbade him to pick up the gun. He raised his gun and the officer shot him in the hand at least once.

Police say the officer fired several times, but are unsure whether the man was hit more than once.

According to police, the man was calmly arrested and taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
