Pedestrian killed in crash identified by Phoenix police; involved off-duty MCSO employee

Phoenix police officials have released new details about a fatal crash that occurred over the weekend.

In a statement issued on Monday morning, the police say that the accident occurred on October 26 around 7 p.m. in the area of ​​ul. 51st Avenue and Baseline Road.

“When officers arrived, they located an adult pedestrian, identified as 35-year-old Marche Mercado, with serious injuries. Mercado was transported to a nearby hospital, but unfortunately she did not survive her injuries and was pronounced dead. The vehicle involved remained at the scene,” reads part of the statement.

Police say based on preliminary information, the victim was crossing 51st Avenue north of Baseline when he was struck by a vehicle involved in the crash halfway down the block.

Meanwhile, a spokesman for the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that one of the people involved in the crash was an off-duty employee. However, the spokesman did not identify the off-duty employee in question and referred us to the Phoenix Police Department for further investigation into the matter.
