Rochester man accused of hitting another person with a gun that exploded – ABC 6 News

(ABC 6 News) – A Rochester man is in the Olmsted County Jail for allegedly hitting another man with a gun that went off.

Clifford Marquiz Hankins, 46, was charged Tuesday morning with second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon and felon in possession of a firearm/ammunition.

According to court documents, police responded to a southwest Rochester home on Monday, Dec. 2, around 4:40 p.m., in reference to a weapons violation.

The caller said Hankins entered the house with a firearm, attacked a man with it, the gun went off and Hankins fled

Court documents say police spoke to the man, who was bleeding from the nose and said Hankins pulled out a black handgun and struck him behind the right ear and then in the nose.

On the second strike, the gun allegedly fired.

Court documents say police recorded the bullet impacting a few inches above the couch in the living room.

According to court documents, a child under the age of 10 was sitting on the couch and told police he heard two “loud echoes” of a gun.

Police located Hankins at his residence on the 1500 block of 45th Street NW and allegedly found a Glock 48 in the attic.

Court documents show Hankins has a prior drug conviction, which bars him from possessing firearms and ammunition.

Hankins made his first appearance on the charges on December 3 at 10:30 a.m. He is being held on $300,000 bail, with or without conditions.
