A tourist dies in Hong Kong hours after being attacked by stinging insects

A 63-year-old tourist died in Hong Kong hours after he and three others were attacked by stinging insects in the Tai Po countryside.

Four hikers – two men and two women – were exploring Pat Sin Leng along the Wilson Trail around 4 p.m. when they were attacked by the flying insects. The group set off in search of shelter.

One of the women was stung on the head and called the police, claiming that they were attacked by bee-like insects.

Rescuers found three members of the group near Lai Pek Shan and began searching for a fourth hiker, one of the missing men.

He was found after about four hours, but he had already fallen into a coma.

The 63-year-old was airlifted to Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital in Chai Wan, where he was pronounced dead.
