Several officers were injured in an officer-involved shooting on NE Evangeline Highway

LAFAYETTE PARISH – Authorities say several people were injured early Wednesday morning in an officer-involved shooting at 2100 NE Evangeline Thruway.

The Lafayette Police Department responded to reports of multiple shots fired in the area around 2:34 a.m. Upon arrival, officers encountered two groups of people actively exchanging gunfire. Police said the officer fired his weapon in response to the threat.

Several people involved in the incident were taken to a local hospital for treatment. Their conditions were not immediately known.

Louisiana State Police were called in to conduct an independent investigation into the officer’s actions. The services did not provide further details about the circumstances of the shooting or the people involved.

“This is an active investigation,” police said in a statement. “Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.”
