Gaza rescuers say 15 people killed in Israeli New Year’s strike

Those killed and injured in the Jabalia strike were taken to Al-Mamadani Hospital, said rescuer Mohammed, who gave only his first name.

“They were pulled out from under the rubble of the target house,” he said.

A relative said rescuers were still searching for survivors.

“The house turned into a pile of rubble,” said Jibri Abu Warda, adding that the strike occurred around 1 a.m.

He said the explosions shook the area and rescuers only reached the target house in the morning.

“It was a massacre, body parts of children and women were strewn everywhere. They were sleeping when the house was bombed,” Abu Warda said.

“No one knows why they attacked this house. They were all civilians.”

The military attack, which began on October 6, has since spread to northern areas of the Palestinian territory and last week targeted a large hospital that currently has no staff or patients.

The military raided Kamal Adwan Hospital in Beit Lahia on Friday, describing the operation as “one of the largest” operations targeting militants since the beginning of the war.

The raid and arrest of the hospital director drew global attention to Gaza’s broken healthcare system.

The military says it has killed more than 20 militants and detained more than 240 others, including a hospital director whom it described as a suspected Hamas fighter.
