Man arrested after pointing gun at security staff at Chandler Fashion Center

CHANDLER, Ariz. – A man is in custody after he allegedly stole more than $1,000 worth of merchandise from a store at Chandler Fashion Center, then attracted security personnel by exiting with a gun.

Court documents say that on the afternoon of December 3, loss prevention officers at the Macy’s store at Chandler Fashion Center encountered a man who was seen removing several items from the store without paying for them.

Two officers made contact with the man and demanded the return of his property. When the officer tried to grab the man’s clothes, the officer reportedly punched him in the arm and dropped the clothes on the ground.

When the officer pulled out his handcuffs, the man pulled out a gun and pointed it at the officers.

Court documents show that security officers, fearing for their lives, did not intervene and released the man.

The man reportedly stole several Ralph Lauren polo shirts worth over $1,000.

Thanks to the surveillance footage, the police managed to identify the vehicle he left behind and the perpetrator.

The suspect had two different tattoos under each eye, which helped identify him.

Two days later, the suspect was reportedly arrested in south Phoenix.

At the time of his arrest, he was wearing a Ralph Lauren polo shirt that matched the description of the one that had been stolen.

Police also issued a search warrant for the suspect’s address.

Officers found several Ralph Lauren sweaters and polo shirts that still had tags, as well as a black Glock airsoft replica that weighed the same as a real firearm.

The man will now be charged with assault, assault and shoplifting.
