Hassan: A software professional committed suicide on Wednesday over alleged torture by his wife in Karnataka’s Hassan district.

Hot on the heels of the sensational case of Atul Subhash’s suicide in Bengaluru on December 9 due to alleged harassment by his wife, followed by the suicides of a policeman on December 13 and a cafe owner in New Delhi on December 31, 35-year-old old Pramod, an employee of Benz in Bengaluru, ended his life .

Police sources said on Wednesday that Pramod, who lives in Bengaluru’s Indiranagar, left his house on December 29, leaving his phone behind and never returned. The concerned parents and family, after interviewing friends and making all inquiries, filed a complaint at the KR Puram police station in Bengaluru. Meanwhile, locals observed an abandoned vehicle near the Hemavathi river in Hassan district. After finding the phone numbers in the bank books and records kept in the vehicle, they informed Pramod’s parents.

Local police were also contacted and the fire brigade and emergency services began a search on the Hemavathi river. Ultimately, the young man’s body was found on Wednesday morning. According to the police, Pramod jumped into the Hemavathi river near Gorurushettihalli under Aluru police station limits and took his life. Sources further said that the wife came with her child and family to identify Pramod’s body. Pramod’s family strongly objected to the presence of his wife and her family members and reportedly chased them away from the scene. The police immediately arrived and rescued Pramod’s wife and her mother and took them to a safe place. The case is ongoing and the police are recording statements from both sides of the family. The police have not yet issued an official statement on this matter, and more details are not yet known.
