Air Quality Deteriorates in Delhi-NCR: GRAP 3 Restrictions Reimposed Across National Capital – Do’s and Don’ts – India News

The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) on Friday (January 3) re-introduced Phase III of the Graduated Response Action Plan (GRAP) across Delhi-NCR in response to rising pollution levels. Dense fog enveloped Delhi for the second morning in a row, reducing visibility to zero in many areas and disrupting transport.

According to the Meteorological Department, visibility dropped to zero in Palam from 11.30 pm on Friday and Safdarjung from 12.30 pm on Saturday. Fog persisted due to calm surface winds that made it difficult to dissipate. An additional challenge is the air quality in the country’s capital, which still falls into the “very poor” category. According to data from the Central Pollution Control Board, the air quality index (AQI) was 380 at 9 a.m.

Forecasts from India The Meteorological Department (IMD) and the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology have suggested that air quality is likely to deteriorate further. To address the deteriorating conditions, CAQM has instructed authorities in Delhi-NCR to immediately implement GRAP Stage III restrictions.

  • Educational measures: Classes up to grade 5 must switch to hybrid mode, allowing parents and students to choose online learning.
  • Vehicle Restrictions: Use of BS-III and BS-IV petrol diesel Cars (four-wheelers) are banned in Delhi and adjoining NCR districts, with exceptions for disabled people.
  • Restrictions on heavy goods vehicles: Non-essential diesel-powered goods vehicles compliant with BS-IV standards or below are banned from plying in Delhi.
