Ishpeming man with intent to commit murder | News, sports, work

ISHPEMING — A 30-year-old Ishpeming man is facing murder charges in connection with an alleged New Year’s Eve assault.

Zachary Adam Lewis was arraigned Thursday in Marquette County District Court. After his arrest on Tuesday morning, he is charged with assault with intent to murder.

According to a press release from the Ishpeming Police Department, a 56-year-old man was struck in the head with a meat tenderizer. In response to the assault, police were dispatched to 551 Jasper St. around 2:40 a.m. Tuesday.

After the incident was investigated, Lewis was arrested after being treated for self-inflicted injuries.

Lewis is in the Marquette County Jail.

His bail is set at $500,000 and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for January 23.
