Today’s Delhi News: 5 injured in gang war, fight between AAP and BJP amid rise in crime – Delhi News

On Sunday evening, a gunfight broke out on a street in Delhi between two gangs, leaving two people in a critical condition and three injured.

The firing lasted for an hour in the Sangam Vihar area. Police arrested two, Sahil and Rahul, in connection with the incident.

Both Rahul and Sahil were rushed to hospital in a critical condition after they were beaten up by locals. Another person, Nasir, was shot in the neck.

According to police sources, Sahil and Rahul shot at Nasir’s aide. Meanwhile, Nasir’s family and friends surrounded Sahil and Rahul, taking away their weapons.

Stones were thrown at both Sahil and Rahul. The attack left Sahil almost dead.

On the other hand, Rahul suffered fractures at multiple places, including his leg, police sources said.

AAP attacks BJP over ‘dangerous’ law and order situation

A day after the incident, former deputy prime minister and senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Manish Sisodia questioned the law and order situation in Delhi under Union Home Minister Amit Shah just a month before the Delhi Assembly elections.

“I just saw on TV that there was bullet firing for an hour in the Sangam Vihar area at night. The residents somehow tolerated it. This is a very dangerous situation in Delhi where there is a gang war going on almost every day,” Sisodia told a group of reporters on Monday.

Sisodia further wondered whether the BJP-led Union government would be able to deal with hospitals, schools and power plants in Delhi if it was unable to deal with the law and order situation.

“The Prime Minister comes and insults Kejriwal ji in front of the people of Delhi. The law and order situation has become very bad. If hospitals, schools and electrical installations are handed over to the BJP in Delhi, what will be their condition?” Sisodia asked.

Reacting to the incident, former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said, “Amit Shah ji, please stop this. What have you people done to Delhi? Do something?”

Kejriwal asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to provide Delhi with a “competent” home minister in case Amit Shah is unable to ensure the safety of the people of Delhi.

“Dear Prime Minister, if Amit Shah is unable to discharge his duties, give Delhi a competent Home Minister who will ensure the safety of citizens,” Kejriwal said.

Delhi Police and law and order, both entities under the central government, have been a major flashpoint between the AAP and the BJP from time to time.

In November 2024, Kejriwal, pointing to a Rohini trader receiving extortion calls, echoed Sisodia’s sentiments, wondering whether the BJP would be able to satisfy Delhi’s aspirations if elected to power.
