Bengaluru techie’s suicide case: No relief for Atul Subhash’s wife, Karnataka HC upholds FIR against Nikita Singhania

Techie Suicide Case in Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court on Monday refused to quash the First Information Report (FIR) filed against Nikita Singhania, wife of techie Atul Subhash, who tragically died by suicide in December 2024. Karnataka HC order comes on allegations that Nikita Singhania and her mother and brother abetted Atul Subhash’s suicide, following allegations of molestation and extortion.

During the proceedings, Justice Hemant Chandangoudar said that “the complaint enumerates prima facie elements of abetment to suicide”, stating that there was sufficient evidence to warrant further investigation into the matter.

Bengaluru City Civil Court On January 4, he released Nikita Singhania, her mother and brother on bail.

Bengaluru-based techie Atul Subhash died by suicide in December 2024. He left behind a 24-page suicide note and a video in which he alleged that he was harassed by his estranged wife Nikita, mother-in-law Nisha and brother-in-law Anurag.

In his suicide note, Atul Subhash described his suffering and alleged ill-treatment from his wife Nikita Singhania and in-laws. In his note, he accused them of demanding large sums of money for legal matters related to his son and visitation rights.

Nikita Singhania, along with her mother and brother, were arrested soon after Atul Subhash’s death based on a complaint filed by his brother. Police said they were charged with demand 3 crore for withdrawal of police cases Atul Subhash.

Despite being granted bail by the lower court, Nikita Singhania sought quashing of the FIR, arguing that her arrest was illegal due to lack of proper grounds provided by the police.

Nikita Singhania was arrested from Haryana’s Gurugram on December 15, while her mother and brother were earlier arrested from Prayagraj and produced before a court in Bengaluru, after which they were sent to judicial custody.

Atul Subhash, who worked for a car company in Bengaluru, allegedly took his own life on December 9 after his wife Nikita Singhania and her family pressured him to pay Divorce settlement for ₹3 crore. He left behind a 90-minute film and a 40-page death certificate in which he detailed how the abuse of his wife led him to take such an extreme step.
