The cause of death of the Redding eagles was revealed after an autopsy was performed on Luna

Friends of the Redding Eagles (FORE) announced Monday that they have received Luna’s autopsy report, Redding Eagles. an eagle who died in June.

According to FORE, Krysty Rogers of the Wildlife Health Laboratory (WHL). who worked on the investigation concluded that the cause of death was probably the high temperature in the area at the beginning of the month.

FORE said the report by the WHL, part of the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, also stated “there were no signs of infection or toxin exposure, although testing was limited due to the poor condition of the remains.”

Luna’s sibling, Sol, remained in the nest, and apparently so did died during the same heat wave.

Luna and Sol’s parents, Liberty and Guardian, lost their nest in a storm in December and are currently in the process of rebuilding it. FORE said the report’s findings made them more relieved to hear that the couple had accepted the starter nest they created for Redding’s famous eagles, with more shade in a healthier tree to protect future eaglets.

They also stated that the update was only a summary of the full report stating:

At this time we are still reviewing the very detailed information presented throughout the final necropsy report and are consulting with our raptor rehabilitation expert, Marily Woodhouse, for some questions and clarifications regarding the findings. We also realize that some of the very graphic details of the report may be distressing to many people who loved our Luna with all their hearts, so we want to exercise caution when disclosing public portions of the final report.

According to FORE, there was no indication of the presence of West Nile virus or bird flu, also known as bird flu, at the time of the eagle’s death.
