Deonte Harty returns to training due to injury

Veteran winger/returner Deonte Harty returns to the field for the first time since suffering a knee injury in mid-October.

Harty has been designated to return from injured reserve, opening up a 21-day training window and preparing him for a potential playoff appearance.

He was placed on injured reserve on October 19 and has not played since Week 6 against the Washington Commanders.

The 27-year-old Baltimore resident and Archbishop Curley graduate signed with his hometown team in the offseason and returned eight punts for 85 yards and four kicks for 98 yards in five games.

Tylan Wallace, Steven Sims and Desmond King returned punts in Harty’s absence, but Wallace and King struggled with ball security. King had two punts that hit the ground against the Steelers in Week 16.

Harty is the most experienced return specialist on the team with 111 career returns and two touchdowns. He made the Pro Bowl in 2019 as a return specialist for the New Orleans Saints, when he led the NFL in return points.

When asked last week about the Ravens’ work to punt back from week to week, special teams coordinator Chris Horton mentioned the loss of Harty.

“We know what we have and we just know who is available to us,” Horton said. “And if we can continue to add value at that position – which I think we’ve done over the last couple of weeks – we’ll just work with those guys. For us it doesn’t really matter who will be there. We know if we take care of our business, we will get the job done.”
