At least four people were injured when a train hit a truck at a railway crossing in Sarishabari upazila of Jamalpur this morning.

The porter was absent so the bars were never lowered, due to which the truck overturned after colliding with the Nasirabad Express, said Rabiul Islam, officer-in-charge of Jamalpur police station, quoting residents.

The incident took place at 4.45 am near the railway crossing at Talukder Bari junction in Sarishabari municipality. As a result, train operations on the line were suspended for six hours, said Jamalpur Railway Station Manager Dewan Harun.

Three of the four injured people were from the truck, the other was train driver Shamsul Haque, 58.

The truck driver, Helal Miah, 35, from Tarakandi village, was also injured, as were two other people who were traveling in the truck.

The injured were rescued by locals and shifted to Bhuiyanpur Health Complex.

A railway crossing porter has been arrested for neglecting his duties and further legal action will be taken, a railway police official said.
