Suspect convicted in fatal Lincoln Park shooting

SAN DIEGO (CNS) – A suspected gang member who allegedly shot and killed a Tijuana teenager last weekend during a confrontation in San Diego’s Lincoln Park neighborhood was behind bars Wednesday and faces murder charges.

According to the San Diego Police Department, 21-year-old Edwin Bejarano Aguayo was arrested late Tuesday night during a traffic stop on Interstate 5 near Del Mar Heights Road in connection with the murder of 19-year-old David Solis.

Patrol officers responded to a report of a shooting shortly after 9:30 a.m. Sunday. They found Solis in the roadway in the 300 block of Willie James Jones Avenue suffering from at least one gunshot wound to the torso, SDPD Lt. Lou Maggi said. Paramedics transported the victim to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Preliminary evidence suggests Aguayo and his cohort were spray-painting gang graffiti on a wall in a neighborhood south of Market Street and east of Interstate 805 when Solis approached, Maggi added. According to police, a dispute broke out and a fatal shooting occurred.

An unidentified man who was allegedly with Aguayo at the time of the fatal shooting remains at large, the lieutenant said.

Aguayo was booked into the San Diego Central Jail, where he was held without bail pending his arraignment, scheduled for Friday afternoon.
