A mob attacked the Ejura police station after a suspect died in prison. As a result of the attack, the station was set on fire.

A serious scenario unfolded this morning in Ejura when a mob attacked and burnt down the local police station.

The incident occurred as a result of the death of a suspect in police custody.

The suspect was arrested on Friday evening on suspicion of theft and while in custody he complained of illness. He was immediately rushed to Ejura Government Hospital for medical attention where he tragically died.

After learning about his death, a group of residents came to the police station and launched a brutal attack. The station was set on fire and the mob forcibly removed the deceased’s body from the hospital.

The quick action of the Ghana Police Service, in consultation with the military, calmed the unrest and restored order.

Community leaders played a key role in calming the situation. The Ghana National Fire Service also quickly arrived to extinguish the fire at the police station.

The tragedy has sparked concern in the community, and investigations continue to uncover the actual circumstances surrounding the suspect’s death.
