Tom Brady ‘will not return to role on FOX NFL’ despite nine-year contract | NFL | Sport

Former MLB executive David Samson expressed his opinion that Tom Brady will not return for a second year as an NFL analyst for FOX due to his commitments as co-owner of the Las Vegas Raiders. The seven-time Super Bowl champion previously signed a staggering $375 million contract to become the network’s primary color commentator for the next decade, starting this season.

However, the former New England Patriots quarterback received mixed reviews from viewers after making the switch to broadcasting. The 47-year-old’s role with the Raiders means he is subject to league rules regarding on-air postings on FOX, which prevent him from participating in in-person or online production meetings.

Additionally, Brady cannot criticize referees or other teams as part of his duties as an on-net analyst. Now Samson, former president of the Miami Marlins, has suggested that it won’t be possible for the retired football legend to combine his interests with the Raiders and his television work next year.

In an interview with Stugotz on the Dan Le Batard Show, he said: “Tom Brady is running this team now – the NFL knows it and FOX knows it and something has to give.

“So enjoy Tom on the stand, because you won’t see him there next year. He’ll be in the Raiders front office, he won’t come back as an analyst for FOX – you can’t be that involved with the team and become the No. 1 analyst. That’s an absolute insult to analysts, and what he’s doing is an insult to the team president.

“He’ll end up being mediocre… and I promise you he’ll choose the Raiders. Tom Brady will not be working at FOX next season, he will be working full-time in the Raiders front office, leading this team. Period.”

This came after The Athletic’s Andrew Marchand expressed skepticism about Brady’s commitment to broadcasting, saying: “I’ve previously said I’d bet big money that Brady doesn’t end his 10-year deal with Fox worth $375 million, taking into account that all his various business interests are away from broadcasting, including ownership.”

“It remains true. A safer prediction would be that Brady will exit his contract with Fox after three or four years. “But I will go out on a limb and say that Brady is getting more involved with the Las Vegas Raiders this offseason and is deciding to go all in with the NFL owner and his production company at the start of the next NFL season.”

The Raiders have been navigating choppy waters lately, and there have been significant changes in their management. Tom Telesco has been removed as general manager, prompting the team to release a statement: “The Las Vegas Raiders have relieved Tom Telesco of his duties as general manager. We appreciate his efforts that contributed to building foundations for the future. I wish Tom and his family all the best.”

In further upheaval, head coach Antonio Pierce was also fired, and the Raiders expressed gratitude for his contributions: “The Las Vegas Raiders have relieved Antonio Pierce of his head coaching duties. We appreciate Antonio’s leadership, first as interim head coach and last season as head coach.”
