A US-based woman claimed that Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence chatbot, Grok, correctly identified her daughter’s fracture – something doctors reportedly missed. The discovery, published in a post on X, has sparked debate about the potential role of artificial intelligence in healthcare.

AJ Kay said her daughter was involved in a serious car accident. Although she initially appeared unscathed, her daughter soon complained of severe pain in her arm.

“One of my daughters was in a serious car accident last weekend. The car was completely wrecked, but she survived. Fortunately, everyone involved made it happen. “It was a best-case scenario for a serious multi-vehicle collision on a highway,” she said.

A visit to an urgent care center, along with an x-ray, led to a diagnosis of no fracture. Doctors sent her home with painkillers and a bandage.

“So we got to Urgent Care and they examined her and took some x-rays. Both the doctor who treated her and the radiologist said there were no breakdowns and after answering some of our questions, they sent her home with a bandage and ibuprofen. On the way out, I asked them to print out our x-rays so I could take them to her family doctor. I hoped they were correct, but they weren’t sold,” she said.

However, Kay became concerned when her daughter’s condition worsened. Her daughter’s wrist seemed deformed, her hand was cold and tingling, and she had difficulty moving her thumb. Unsatisfied with her initial diagnosis, Kay turned to Elon Musk’s AI tool, Grok, after remembering Musk’s claim that a chatbot could analyze medical images.

“I transferred x-rays of healthy and broken wrists and, remembering @elonmusk’s post from a few weeks ago that Grok2 could read medical images, I sent Grok a wrist x-ray and asked if there were any abnormalities,” she wrote in her post.

Grok’s response was alarming but confirming: “There is a clear fracture line visible at the distal radius.”

Kay then sought a second opinion from a wrist specialist. The expert confirmed Grok’s assessment – a fracture of the distal part of the radial head with dorsal displacement. The specialist warned that further delays may result in the need for surgery, but thanks to Grok’s early detection, appropriate treatment was quickly implemented.

The incident sparked mixed reactions online. While several users praised Grok, others expressed concerns about the potential for AI to intervene in the healthcare system.
