Game changer: Telangana withdraws ticket price hike for Ram Charan-Starrer after Supreme Court order

The Telangana government has withdrawn its earlier approval to increase ticket prices for the Game Changer vs. Ram Charan match.

The Telangana government has withdrawn its earlier approval to increase ticket prices for the Game Changer vs. Ram Charan match. Following High Court guidance, the government has announced that morning shows will no longer be permitted unless considerations of public interest, health and safety are met. An official statement issued on Saturday evening confirmed that the withdrawal of approval for ticket price increases will come into force on January 16.

Earlier on January 3, the state government had approved the request of Game Changer makers to screen six shows on January 10, including the 4 am show, at an additional charge of Rs 150 for multiplexes and Rs 100 for single-screen theatres.

The government has also allowed five daily shows from January 11 to 19 at an additional charge of Rs 100 for multiplexes and Rs 50 for single-screen theatres. As part of this approval, the government required advertising to be shown about the dangers of drugs and cybercrime. However, on January 10, the High Court ordered a reconsideration of the ticket price hike – ₹ 150 for multiplexes and Rs 100 for single theaters – within 24 hours of receiving the order. The court also ruled that morning shows should not be allowed.

Opposition BRS MLA T Harish Rao on January 10 criticized the Congress government for allowing ticket price hike even though Cinematography Minister K Venkata Reddy opposed it in the Assembly. This comes after a woman died in a stampede at the Pushpa-2 premiere on December 4, 2024.

Meanwhile, News18 Showsha gave Game Changer a 2.5-star rating. “There are not many dull moments in Game Changer as the script is quite gripping and explores some interesting powers of IAS officers and chief electoral officers. However, such tricks are not enough to sustain a film as long as this one. While there is no boredom, there is no perfect entertainment either,” we read in part of our review.
