Castleford: 18-year-old man dies after car crashes into water

An 18-year-old man died after his car left the road and entered a sewage treatment plant.

Emergency services found a white Volkswagen Golf partially submerged in a pit in a water treatment plant after it reportedly fell off Wheldon Road in Castleford at around 06:19 GMT on Sunday.

West Yorkshire Police said the 18-year-old, from the Wakefield area, was found meters away from the car and pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers found a man and a woman, 21, in the vehicle who were taken to hospital for further treatment. They were arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
