Essex Police said Cumali Turhan was reported missing in November after he failed to turn up for work

The body of a missing man was found in a garbage dump.

Essex Police said the body had been identified as Cumali Turhan, 46, who went missing in Chelmsford on November 19.

Authorities said the search for the missing man has ended and his family has been informed.

Police are continuing to appeal for information about the suspect, who has been identified as Ceyhan Dinler, 38, from Chelmsford, who allegedly left the country via Stansted Airport on the day Turhan was last in contact with anyone.

Ciprian Ilie, 44, of no fixed address, was charged with assisting an offender and remanded in custody. He is due to appear at Chelmsford Crown Court on September 15.

Police said the landfill was in Essex but did not reveal the location.

Det Ch Insp Louise Metcalfe said: “Specialist officers worked diligently for 45 days at the landfill in conditions that severely weakened their resilience.”

Police said the investigation at the landfill would continue for several days.

“An extremely difficult investigation”

Mr Turhan was last seen at The Globe pub on Rainsford Road, Chelmsford in the early hours of November 19.

Police say he may have later stayed at the Barista Bar and Restaurant on Duke Street, but CCTV did not show him leaving the premises.

Later that evening, he was reported missing after failing to show up for work.

Det Ch Insp Metcalfe said: “Their (officers’) hard work continued unabated even in extreme weather conditions to support detectives who worked quickly to ensure progress was made in an extremely difficult investigation.

“We have been in constant contact with Cumali’s family throughout this difficult time. They will continue to be supported by specialist officers as this news will take some time for them to cope with.”
