Rajasthan: Four people die of suffocation, two critical after stove left on in two separate incidents

One person died of suffocation and two others were in a critical condition after inhaling toxic gas leaking from a stove on which they were burning as they went to sleep in Kishangarh, Rajasthan, police said on Sunday.

In the accident, 30-year-old laborer Krishan Yadav died and two others, Satyanarayan and Chotu, are in a critical condition and are undergoing treatment at a local hospital in Kishangarh.

The incident took place at a marble factory where three workers were sleeping in a room on Saturday evening. They felt suffocated as smoke poured out “angeeethi” (stove) kept indoors to keep warm in an environment of oppressive cold, filled the air.

According to police, the three marble workers decided to leave the furnace on before going to bed.

When they didn’t wake up the next morning, local police were notified. The police reached the factory and the doors were opened with a gas cutter.

Police said that in a similar incident that occurred in Khairthal-Tijara district of Khairthal-Tijara state, three people died of suffocation because they did not turn off the stove in a room in the house.

Police reported that there was no ventilation in the room because the windows were closed due to the cold outside.

The deceased were identified as Dhananjay (50), his son Ankit (14) and their neighbor Abhishek Rai (25). The three were found unconscious after their family members broke down the door to their room, from which they only emerged on Sunday afternoon.

Family members immediately rushed the three people to the hospital, where they were pronounced dead. All three of them came from Bihar to Rajasthan.
