A lover ends his life after a woman commits suicide in Phagwara, Punjab

A 33-year-old married woman allegedly died by suicide in Mandhali village near Phagwara. The next day, her lover also ended his life by hanging himself in the hotel room.

According to officials, Richa Bhardwaj ended her life by hanging herself in her home on January 10.

Kapil, the deceased’s brother, told the police that his sister had married a Delhi resident Raghav and left behind an 11-year-old son. But later she came in contact with Sunil Kumar alias Sunny from Mandhali village and the two were in a live-in relationship for the last five years.

However, he added that their relationship had deteriorated due to frequent quarrels and allegations of harassment.

After Richa’s death, Sunny also ended his life by hanging himself in a hotel room on Banga-Mukerian road. Hotel staff found Sunny’s body on January 11 after noticing his cell phone was turned off.

Police investigation revealed that Sunny had convinced Richa to leave her marital home five years ago and take her and her son to Mandali village. Despite purchasing a house together, their relationship was fraught with conflict.
