Renowned bassist Chandramouli Biswas was found dead at his rented residence near Wellington in Kolkata on Sunday evening. According to The Times of India, the 48-year-old musician, associated with popular bands such as Fossils, Golok and Zombie Cage Control, died by suicide.

Golok lead singer Mohul Chakraborty found the body and immediately informed residents and police. Expressing his sadness, Mohul said, “Biswas did not answer my calls since morning and I started getting worried for him. I called one of his close friends and we both reached his house to check on him when we found him dead. It is a big loss for the entire Bengali music industry.” Chandramouli, who left his engineering career to follow his passion for music, leaves behind a legacy that will be remembered by the Bengali music fraternity.

According to police reports, preliminary investigation revealed that Chandramouli Biswas had been struggling with depression for several years due to financial difficulties. The police officer said relatives and friends confirmed his struggles, mentioning that he had “suffered from depression for several years and was undergoing treatment.”

Authorities also recovered a suicide note from the scene, which stated that no one could be held responsible for his death. The handwriting of the note is currently being verified. Meanwhile, the body has been sent for post-mortem as part of the ongoing investigation.

Fossils manager Rupsha Dasgupta said that Chandramouli Biswas was in the band from 2000 to 2018. He started as a guitarist and later became a bassist. She added that he left in 2018 due to health problems. “Chandra had a huge fan base among the young audience and it’s shocking that he died so soon. In addition to being a great musician, he was extremely cheerful and connected with people from all walks of life. A brilliant student and engineer at the Jagiellonian University, he abandoned everything to pursue music. Chandra performed there with us for over 15 years. He was a key member of the team. I talked to Allen. Rupam and other team members are devastated. We don’t know how the team will perform after hearing this news,” Rupsha said as quoted by Hindustan Times.
