One person was killed and one was seriously injured Monday in a crash in Mitchell County

BELOIT, Kan. (WIBW) – One person was killed and another was seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash Monday morning in north-central Kansas’ Mitchell County, authorities said.

The crash was reported at 6:50 p.m. Monday on K-14, about five miles north of Beloit.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2010 Toyota Tundra was traveling north on K-14 when it crossed the center line and struck a 2008 Ford Escape traveling southbound on the highway.

The driver of the Ford, identified as Cady G. Travis, 44, of Jewell, was pronounced dead at the scene. The patrol said Travis was wearing a seat belt.

The driver of the Toyota, Christopher J. Herz, 39, of Burr Oak, was taken to Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit with serious injuries. The patrol found that Herz was not wearing a seat belt.

According to the patrol, both drivers were alone in their vehicles.
