Neil Gaiman: JK Rowling responds to sexual assault allegations against ‘Sandman’ author

JK Rowling has criticized the “literary crowd” for failing to respond to repeated sexual assault allegations against author Neil Gaiman.

Gaiman wrote almost 50 books, including American Gods, Nightshade AND Good omen, as well as the comic series Sandman. New York Magazine published an article on January 13 in which he detailed old and new allegations made against the author by various women. This article is based on information from Tortoise Media’s six-part podcast Master: Allegations against Neil Gaimanreleased in July and August 2024.

In the article, the women mentioned Gaiman, asked to call him “master” and alleged that the alleged assaults took place at Gaiman’s home. One of them allegedly even took place in a hotel room, near his son. Rowling responded by comparing the reaction to the claims to the initial reactions to the jailed rapist Harvey Weinstein.

Newsweek sent an email to Rowling and Gaiman’s spokespeople on Tuesday. Rowling declined to comment.

“The literary community, which had a hell of a lot to say about Harvey Weinstein before he was convicted, has been strangely muted in response to repeated accusations against Neil Gaiman from young women who have never met and yet – like Weinstein – provided astonishing information. similar stories” – author of Harry Potter wrote on X (formerly Twitter) on the date of publication of the article.

As of this writing, her post has been viewed 1.5 million times.

Gaiman, like Weinstein, was accused not only of assaulting women, but also of allegedly using NDAs and bribes to silence his alleged victims. Gaiman, through its representatives, claims that all of these meetings were consensual.

Weinstein is currently serving 16 years in prison for rape and sexual assault IN California.

This was reported by one of Gaiman’s accusers, Scarlett Pavlovich New York Magazine the author made many sexual advances towards her.

She detailed one encounter during which she said he told her, “Call me master,” and said, “Be a good girl. You are a good little girl.”

Gaiman’s representatives told the Tortoise podcast that “sexual degradation, bondage, dominance, sadism and masochism may not be to everyone’s taste, but BDSM is legal between consenting adults.”

The award-winning author is taking part in the second season of the series The Sandman Down Netflix ia Good omen Prime Video finale. Gaiman helped write the finale, but stepped down as showrunner in September when the first wave of accusations against him came to light.

Newsweek We emailed Netflix and Prime Video outside normal business hours on Tuesday seeking comment.

Rowling is not without its own controversies. Over the past few years, the Harry Potter author has sparked debate and backlash over her statements about transgender women, prompting some activists to dub Rowling a “TERF” – an acronym for trans-exclusionary radical feminist.

Online fan communities have distanced themselves from her, with some removing her name from fan content or organizing boycotts Harry Potter-related products. Rowling herself built on her controversial status by engaging with her critics on Program X, portraying herself as opposed to “cancel culture” and in favor of women’s rights.
