A rape case was filed today against seven people, including a local Jubo Dal leader, in Cumilla’s Nangalkot upazila.

Nangalkot police station registered a case after preliminary investigation confirmed the allegations, said Officer in Charge (OC) AK Fazlul Haque.

“A case was registered today on allegations of gang rape,” he told The Daily Star.

According to police and local sources, the incident took place on January 9 at a sawmill in Sebakhola area of Nurpur village under Nangalkot upazila.

Both victims filed a complaint at the police station on January 12.

The two main accused are local Jubo Dal leader Md Mohsin, son of Bangadda trade unionist Ranju Mia, and Khokon Mia, a sawmill owner. The names of seven people were provided in the case.

One of the victims claimed that around 10–12 people were involved in the incident, including Mohsin and Khokon.

“First, they traveled with us in an auto-rickshaw. When we suspected their evil intentions and tried to escape, they locked us in a room in the sawmill and raped us. They beat us, recorded videos and threatened to kill us if we raised the alarm. We were detained from midnight to 4:00 a.m.,” the victim said.

The victim added that the accused later released them in an auto-rickshaw, threatening to kill them if they reported the crime. The autorickshaw dropped them off at Chauddagram Bazar.

When contacted, the owner of the Khokon Mia sawmill denied the allegations.

“I was not involved in this case. Mohsin and others brought the girls,” he said.

Mohsin’s father Ranju Mia alleged that his son was framed.

“The group is conspiring against my son. He is innocent,” he said.

Monirul Islam, president of Nangalkot upazila Jubo Dal, Monirul Islam said, “I have not heard about this incident. If anyone is found guilty, he should be punished.”
