NFL hopeful Kyren Lacy, one of the top wide receivers in this year’s draft, was arrested for negligent homicide in connection with a fatal crash in Louisiana last month.

Authorities said Lacy was booked into the Lafourche Parish Correctional Facility on Sunday evening – two days after Louisiana State Police announced they had issued a warrant for the athlete’s arrest for allegedly leaving the scene of a fatal Dec. 17 crash.

Police said that in addition to negligent homicide, he also faces felony hit-and-run and reckless driving.

Lacy posted $151,000 bail and was released from jail Sunday evening, a spokesman for the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office confirmed.

Lacy, who played for Louisiana State University in the fall before declaring for the draft, was allegedly behind the wheel of a 2023 Dodge Charger when he “recklessly passed multiple vehicles at a high rate of speed, crossing the center line and entering the northbound lane while in the designated no-passing zone” on Louisiana Highway 20, state police said in a statement. press release.

The driver of a northbound 2017 Kia Cadenza swerved off the road to avoid hitting the Dodge, but crossed the center line and collided head-on with a 2017 Kia Sorento. Authorities said the passenger in the Kia Sorento, identified by police as 78-year-old Herman Hall of Thibodaux, died from his injuries after being taken to hospital.

Lacy allegedly drove around the crash site and fled south, “failing to stop to render aid, call emergency services or report his involvement in the crash,” state police said.

Louisiana State Police said Friday that troopers contacted Lacy and her legal representative so the athlete could turn himself in.

Lacy’s agent said the athlete “has cooperated fully with the authorities.”

“We firmly believe that the facts will ultimately reveal the truth, but we respect the need for a full and thorough investigation,” said agent Rocky Arceneaux of Alliance Sports. – wrote in the statement.

Lacy, 24, of Thibodaux, was a winger for the LSU Tigers. Two days after the disaster, on December 19, he announced which he will declare in the 2025 NFL Draft.

The star prospect has recorded 58 catches for 866 yards and nine touchdowns this season. Lacy had 26 touchdowns in five seasons at LSU. He opted out of the Texas Bowl against Baylor to focus on preparing for the draft.
