Ludhiana: 65-year-old man murdered by hackers in Haibowal

At least 10 assailants hacked a 65-year-old man to death and injured his family members after an argument over kite flying at Kehar Singh Nagar in Haibowal on Tuesday afternoon. According to the victim’s relatives, the accused threatened them with death if they filed a police complaint.

The police initiated the process of registering an FIR against the accused after recording the statement of the victim’s relatives, identified as Gurmel Singh of Kehar Singh Nagar, Jassian Road, Haibowal.

Jaswinder Singh, the victim’s son, said the accused live nearby. On Monday, on the occasion of Lohri, the accused flew kites on the roof, “played loud music and created a ruckus”. The neighbors were concerned.

“My father went to the accused’s house and asked them not to create a fuss. On Tuesday, the accused took similar action, so my father again went to their house and asked them to lower the volume of the music system,” said Jaswinder Singh.

“When my father entered the house, the accused along with their aides barged in, attacked all the family members with sharp weapons and fled, leaving my father dead. Me, my brother and his wife were injured,” he added.

Inspector Madhu Bala, station house officer (SHO), Haibowal police station, said the police have recorded the statements of the victim’s relatives and initiated the process of registering an FIR. A search is underway to arrest the accused.
