A man is arrested for impersonating a police officer

NEW CANAAN, Conn. (WFSB) – A man was arrested in New Canaan for impersonating a police officer.

New Canaan police identified the man as Stephane Kenny Smarth.

Police said they stopped Smarth on Saturday for having a covered license plate.

After identifying him, police said Smarth showed them a Stamford police officer’s badge. He told them he was a Stamford police officer and was in the process of being transferred.

Further investigation revealed that he was no longer employed by the Stamford Police Department.

They said probable cause was established and Smarth was arrested.

He was charged with impersonating a police officer, and his trial was set for January 24.
